Queerstories of Recovery: Voices from the Margin Podcast

“I do not believe the story of my scholarship is separate from the story of my life or the body I live.” – Stacey Waite

Queerstories of Recovery: Voices from the Margin is my new digital storytelling podcast dedicated to amplifying the voices of queer individuals in recovery, those (like myself) who often erased or silenced by dominant, heteronormative recovery cultures like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and the alcogenic norms of academia.

Rooted in my work as the founder of Voices from Rock Bottom (VFRB), a podcast produced by Maker Park Radio – NYC (between 2018 and 2021), this series extends the queer rhetorical methodology I have developed, which I call “queerstory.”

My rhetorical theory framework, “Queerstory,” uses personal narrative, intersectional critique, and rhetorical resistance as a discourse framework to share authentic queer recovery experiences in digital public spaces.

With a renewed focus on queer, sober academics’ experiences, I hope this series makes space for critical conversations at the intersection of recovery, queerness, and institutional exclusion in both AA and academia.

I firmly believe that digital queer communities are public rhetoric activism at work.
